Wild Swim: Come on in with Dip Advisor’s Ella Foote

Dip into the health benefits, the stories behind wild swimming and a physical plunge - a favourite among our residents - in our beautiful Lower Lake with Dip Advisor's Ella Foote.

Returning to the waters - and water lillies - of Heckfield, Ella is a swimming journalist and teacher, contributing editor at Outdoor Swimmer magazine and year-round outdoor swimmer.

The event starts at 3pm outside the House, before we meander down to the Lower Lake. It finishes with a three-course fixed set menu Earth at 5:30pm in Marle Restaurant. In 2018, Ella launched Dip Advisor. An intrepid swim explorer, she is constantly seeking out new rivers, lakes, ponds, seas and pools to plunge into. Her local spot to swim? A hidden medieval pond that she has to scramble through bushes to get to. Mostly swims in the rivers around Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire and Oxfordshire, she has completed swims like an English Channel relay crossing, the Thames Marathon 14k and the Dart 10k, as well as smaller more joyful dips and dunks across the country.

Please note that it rains occasionally in Hampshire and we suggest bringing coats and suitable footwear for the walk down. Please bring your own towels or towelling robe - changing into your trunks/costume/clothes will be out in the open.

Bound by the rhythm of the seasons, our restaurants are fuelled by the biodynamic Market Garden and organic Home Farm. From gluts to unloved bits like beetroot tops, we hope not to waste an ounce of produce.

This daily-changing menu – echoing our Culinary Director Skye Gyngell’s ground-breaking Scratch menu at Spring in London – features elegantly simple, delicious food using ingredients that otherwise might have been overlooked.

Being inspired by what we have to hand means we cannot alter the early evening menu on the night.
